Umberto Tecchiati has been conservator of various Museums and deputy director of the Cultural Heritage Office of the province of Bolzano. Since 2018 he is Associate Professor of Prehistory and Protohistory and Prehistoric Ecology at the State University of Milan. Specialist in alpine archaeology and archaeozoology, he studies the socioeconomic and spiritual components of prehistoric and protohistoric communities in northern Italy, with particular regard to the existing relationships between the Po Valley and the regions north of the Alpine watershed. He has published numerous studies, promoting the activity of interdisciplinary research groups. He directs the University of Milan excavation of the prehistoric site of Colombare di Negrar di Valpolicella (Verona). His role in CELTUDALPS is to coordinate the analyses of zooarchaeological remains from Verona, and contribute to the study of the relationship between humans and domestic animals in the southern side of the Alps.
